Spring is a time of growth and renewed color. Spring is the perfect time to throw a rainbow-themed party! The theme is so simple to pull off and there are so many great ideas out there, but I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you to brighten your party!
Rainbow Photo Backdrop
Cheap streamers in a rainbow of colors can make an amazing backdrop for fun selfies & photo ops! Find a large wall and twist several rows of red streamers from floor to ceiling. Follow up with several rows of orange streamers, then yellow, then green, etc… In the end, you have a full wall of color. Create the cloud effect by adding white balloons of varying sizes along the top or bottom by the floor to represent the fluffy clouds. (Amazon made it simple with an already made kit- check it out here!)Add simple photo booth-type props (hats, glasses, small signs etc…) and guests can capture some great moments with their cell phones, or better yet provide an instant film camera for a retro nostalgic touch!
Rainbow Fruit Or Veggie Platter
Super simple and perfect for any season- after all who doesn’t love fresh fruit and veggies?! Try to choose fruits of varying colors for the best effect. Think red strawberries and green kiwi. Blue blueberries, orange cantaloupe, yellow pineapple, purple grapes, etc…Place the like colored fruit together in lines or along a curved platter in a rainbow shape. For added fun place a pile of marshmallows at the end to represent a cloud. The same can be done with veggies (colored peppers, tomatoes, carrots, etc..) and a cloud of veggie dip sounds perfect to me!
Rainbow Candy Buffet
This is my favorite because everyone loves candy and it is such a simple wow factor to add to any party. A few large clear vases and jars found at any local thrift store is the perfect start to your own buffet. Next, you get creative and hunt for colorful candies, cookies, and treats. I usually like to do several jars with solid colors (red Swedish fish, orange-colored butterscotch candies, yellow lemon heads, etc..) and I sprinkle in a few jars filled with rainbow mixtures (think Skittles, M&M’s or rainbow-colored goldfish crackers) Provide small bags for everyone to fill and take their treats home and I promise you will have happy guests of all ages!
Pro tip: Dollar Tree sells small scoops and mini tongs that are the perfect size for scooping up candies! (Check out my other dollar tree favorites in this article)
Rainbow Games
What party would be complete without games? My favorite for a rainbow theme is a game of Twister! If you are expecting a larger crowd you may want to have several twister mats set out so everyone can play- or even spray paint the dots right on your lawn and you can make it as big as you want!
Rainbow Tie-Dye
Another fan favorite is a tie-dye station. T-shirts can be bought in various sizes at any local big box store. I like to grab a few sizes (youth and adult) to accommodate everyone. Or get more creative and tye-dye other things like socks or pillowcases. (100% cotton items do dye the best so be sure to check out the labels before you buy- avoid polyester as it will not hold color) Put your dye in squeeze bottles to make things easier than trying to dip it into buckets. Provide a roll of masking tape and a permanent marker to label individual creations so you know whose item belongs to who at the end of the night!
Colorful Friends
My all-time favorite idea for your next rainbow party is to ask all of your guests to wear their favorite color of the rainbow head to toe! Once all the guests have arrived group them all together by color and create a picture-perfect photo of all your friends. Print multiple copies and mail them as a personal thank you for coming to the party.
