February is Act Of Kindness month and as the world seems to be getting crazier and crazier I decided this is the perfect time to start a new tradition. for the 28 days in February, I am going to do at least one kind act per day and I challenge you to do the same!
I am not talking about trying to save the world here, just small deeds that can change one person’s day hopefully. I am hoping that the idea is contagious! If we all do extend kindness to one person or group a day it may inspire them to do the same and so on.
The ripple effect of one small thing can be pretty profound. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking about how you too can spread a little love in the world this month!
- Donate a book to your local neighborhood little library box
- Compliment people all day with reckless abandon!
- Leave quarters in vending machines
- Sign up for a charity walk or run event
- Donate blood
- Let someone go ahead of you in line
- Write a positive google review for a small business you love
- Bake cookies for a neighbor
- Leave an extra generous tip
- Pick up trash in a local park
- Donate old towels or blankets to your local animal shelter
- Leave a surprise treat or tip for your mailperson
- Donate food to your local food pantry (your local grocery store usually has a donation bin too)
- Send someone you know flowers that never receives any
- Hold doors open for people every chance you get
- Call your local elementary school and donate money toward a needy child’s lunch account
- Offer to help a friend, walk their dog, babysit, or do yard work
- Donate to your favorite charity (every dollar counts even if you can’t afford much)
- Randomly text a friend and tell them what your favorite trait about them is
- Volunteer your time at a local animal shelter, nursing home, or homeless shelter
- Bring candy or treats for your co-workers
- Make a coffee date with someone who needs a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen
- Deliver a meal to a stressed-out family member or friend so they don’t have to cook
- Take an elderly family member or friend out to do something they enjoy for the day
- Do yard work for a neighbor (mow, shovel, rake leaves, etc…)
- Send a card to a friend or family member letting them know you are thinking of them
- Call a manager of a store and point out the employee that gave you great customer service
- Bring donuts to your local fire station
You may not be able to do all these things- maybe you will double up on a few, but I hope you will make that daily effort to pour a little extra kindness into every day you can this month.
Please spread the word about the kindness challenge too! Tell your children, tell your spouse, and share this post with your friends. Let’s see how many people we can get to join our cause!
