Mother’s Day is a day to honor the miracle of birth and what better setting to host a party than in your garden bursting with spring growth and life! Here are some must-have ideas to host the perfect garden party for the amazing mamas in your village.
The garden doesn’t have to be a garden
If you do not have a pristine garden or yard don’t worry! Any setting with lots of light will do. I do think ideally an outdoor backdrop is best (and easiest) to tie the theme together, but a dining-room table with a floral bouquet centerpiece can be just as pretty! So do not shy away from this theme just because your garden isn’t perfect- decorations go a long way! Check out what we did on our not so perfect patio for my Mother-in-laws garden birthday here.
Fill it with greenery
Whatever space you choose fill it with as much greenery as you can. First, use what you have. Bring all the indoor plants you have already in your home to your party space. Even silk ones are fine to use- again we are trying to set the scene so fill it with green.
Fill it with flowers
Next, you need flowers. If you have some blooming in your own yard cut them and fill vases for centerpiece. Ask your neighbors if you can have a few of theirs and offer to provide them with the bouquet after the party. Check out your local grocery stores for cheap floral bundles. Aldi’s are my favorite as they usually run around $5 a bunch!
Feminine florals
Floral printed tablecloths or runners on the tables will definitely help set the garden mood. I also like to use china for serving my food as they usually are printed with delicate floral patterns that scream femininity. I also am sure to wear a floral printed dress or shirt to tie in. Embrace all things flowery and girly for this event!
Garden fresh food
When we think of a garden we think of fresh vegetables and fruits, vibrant colors, and usually smaller portions. This is not the event to serve BBQ ribs in most cases, though if that’s your mama’s favorite who am I to judge?! I like to provide more of a lighter fare like finger sandwiches, fruit kabobs, a variety of dips, and LOTS of deserts- cuz what woman doesn’t love sweets?
Delicious drinks
Of course, you can’t forget the drinks. I love to play with flavored lemonades and teas. You can even freeze florals into the ice cube to make the presentation beautiful. Maybe offer lemonade and tea on the side with various syrups and herbs, such as rosemary and mint. Allow people o get creative and play with all the delicious fresh options!
Garden goodies
Lastly, my favorite way to tie in any party theme is through the party favors. For a garden party, I like to buy a few flats of cheap perennial flowers like pansies, marigolds, and petunias. Stack small pots (usually bought from The Dollar Tree) and fill a large container with fresh potting soil. Add garden gloves and tools and you have the perfect DIY project for your guests to plant their own mini flower pot to take home. Also providing paint pens or permanent markers for the little ones to decorate the pots can be fun too!
Another twist we are going to try at a friend’s bridal shower is a bouquet bar. Guests can choose a small bud vase and fill it with various fresh-cut florals to take home. This is definitely a less messy option and still a memorable touch for your party guests to take home.
